The Great Gatsby - Student Writing
CREATIVE WRITING ON IMAGINED SCENES
Scene 1 by: Emma 8T
Nick encounters Daisy, instead of Tom, as she walks along Fifth Avenue. It is October. Gatsby is dead.'Nick!' I heard Daisy's thrilling voice behind me. I spun round and she kissed my cheek.
'How wonderful to see you. I've missed you so much!'
She gave a warm smile.
'Hello', I said.
'Oh, it's wonderful, Nick, you'll never guess where we're going! To Europe! Won't that be lovely, you can come and see us and we'll have a wonderful time!'
She kept talking for a while, then there was a pause. I wanted to shake her and ask her how she could have been so cruel, she and the rest of them! Whether she realised the life she had destroyed. Gatsby's life.
But I stayed still and said nothing.
Daisy would never change, she had smashed Gatsby but it hadn't affected her in the least. She hadn't even mentioned his name. I didn't even bother to ask why she hadn't attended the funeral.
I think she saw the disapproval in my eyes because she looked uncomfortably around, then at her little silver wrist watch and said,
'Oh! Oh dear, quarter past three! Tom will be waiting, he'll be furious. Oh Nick, it was lovely to see you. I promise I'll telephone as soon as I step into the new house. Promise! Goodbye!'
She kissed my cheek and walked gracefully away.
Scene 2 by: Jamie 8C
Nick overhears Tom telling Daisy of Gatsby's death.Four days before leaving for the mid-west, I overheard a man talking to some woman about Gatsby. After a while I recognised the husky voice and realised that it was Tom. I could not recognise the woman for she was not speaking. But I saw a hat which I somehow faintly remembered.
'.......I'm sorry. He was shot by a man in the garage. Somehow he must have found out that he was driving the car which killed his wife.....Is something wrong dear.....you look kind of pale.'
Then I realised that it was Daisy. The hat that she was wearing was the same one she wore when they first met. All of a sudden she collapsed and the hat flew into the air. It slowly drifted down onto the road and a car came charging at it. A high pitched cry came from Daisy as if she didn't want that hat to be ruined. It were as it that resembled her past love for Gatsby and by crushing it she would lose him forever.
I was shocked at the sight. Daisy had given up Gatsby but was unable to lose this hat which was the only thing that held the memory of him.
I turned and walked away. hoping that I wouldn't be seen.
